Areas Affected: Western Siskiyou County - North Central and Southeast Siskiyou County - Northeast Siskiyou and Northwest Modoc Counties
 
Alert Details:
* WHAT...Strong winds and heavy snow expected. Strong winds will
impact the area overnight into Wednesday morning with south winds
30 to 40 mph and gusts of 50 to 60 mph, except winds gusting as
high as 80 mph over high and exposed terrain. South winds ease
late Wednesday morning, then increase again Wednesday night into
Thursday, at 30 to 40 mph with gusts of 50 to 60 mph. Meanwhile,
snow levels will remain high through overnight (around 6000-7000
ft), lowering to 4500 ft Wednesday morning. Heavy snow expected
above 4500 ft with snow accumulations of 8 to 14 inches, and 1 to
3 feet above 5500 ft.

* WHERE...Above 4500 ft in Siskiyou County. This includes Etna
Summit on Sawyers Bar Road, Scott Mountain Pass on Highway 3, and
portions of Highway 97 south of MacDoel that includes Grass Lake
at Mt Hebron.

* WHEN...Until 10 AM PST Friday.

* IMPACTS...Travel may be very difficult to impossible. The
hazardous conditions could impact the Wednesday morning and
evening commutes. Very strong winds could cause extensive tree
damage.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...The strongest winds are expected overnight
into Wednesday morning, then again late Wednesday night through
Thursday. The heaviest snow is expected late Wednesday night
through Thursday evening.

Alert Details:
* WHAT...Strong winds and heavy snow expected. Strong winds will
impact the area overnight into Wednesday morning with south winds
25 to 35 mph and gusts of 50 to 55 mph. Winds will gust as high as
80 mph over high and exposed terrain. South winds ease later
Wednesday morning, then increase again Wednesday night into
Thursday, at 25 to 30 mph with gusts to 50 mph. Meanwhile, snow
levels will remain high overnight, lowering to 5000 ft Wednesday
morning, then locally down to 3500 ft Wednesday night through
Friday morning. Total snow accumulations during this time: 6 to 12
inches above 3500 ft, 1-3 ft above 4500 ft.

* WHERE...Strong winds are expected everywhere, strongest in high
and exposed terrain. Moderate to heavy snow will impact portions
of Interstate 5 north of Dunsmuir, including Mt Shasta City and
Black Butte Pass. The heaviest snow amounts are expected above
4500 feet, including Snowman Summit on highway 89 and Shasta Ski
Park.

* WHEN...Until 10 AM PST Friday.

The Mount Shasta Avalanche Center has issued a BACKCOUNTRY
AVALANCHE WARNING for the following areas:
NWS Medford OR - CAZ082 (South Central Siskiyou County).

* WHAT...AVALANCHE WARNING. The Forest Service Mount Shasta
Avalanche Center has issued an avalanche warning for Mount
Shasta area backcountry of Northern California. Two weather
systems will impact the area this week. The first of two waves
will impact the area through Wednesday. The second wave arrives
late Wednesday evening and continues through Friday. Very
dangerous avalanche conditions are likely, especially during
peak intensity late Wednesday night through Friday.

* WHERE...Avalanche terrain of Mount Shasta, Castle Lake, the Eddy
Mountains, and Ash Creek Butte area east of Mount Shasta. Large
avalanche run out zones on Mount Shasta, like Avalanche Gulch
and the Old Ski Bowl should be avoided until storm snow has time
to settle. Both these areas are easily accessed from the Bunny
Flat trailhead, where many holiday visitors will enjoy the snow.
Know where you are going if traveling in the backcountry.

* WHEN...In effect now through 4 PM PST Friday afternoon.

* IMPACTS...Up to 5 feet of snow in terrain above 6000 feet today
through Friday afternoon. Wind gusts in excess of 60 mph. Expect
fluctuating snow levels.

* PRECAUTIONARY / PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...Very dangerous avalanche
conditions. Travel in, near, or below avalanche terrain is not
recommended. Avalanches may run long distances and can run into
mature forests, valley floors, or flat terrain. Check the
avalanche forecast for daily details.

Similar avalanche danger may exist outside the coverage area of
this or any avalanche center.

expected.

* WHERE...Northeast Siskiyou and Northwest Modoc Counties, including
Tulelake, Dorris, and Macdoel.

* WHEN...From 10 PM this evening to 1 PM PST Wednesday.

* IMPACTS...High winds may move loose debris, bring down trees,
damage property and cause power outages. Travel could be
difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. Large inflatable
holiday decorations will be blown about.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Wind hazards are possible again Wednesday
night into Christmas Day.

or damaged by the wind. Watch for falling debris and tree limbs. Use
caution if you must drive. Take time now to prepare for potential
power outages.

* WHAT...For the High Wind Warning, south to southeast winds 35 to
45 mph with gusts up to 70 mph expected. For the High Wind Watch,
southeast winds 30 to 40 mph with gusts up to 65 mph possible.

* WHERE...The Shasta Valley in central Siskiyou County, including
Interstate 5 through the Shasta Valley, Montague, Grenada and Weed.

* WHEN...For the High Wind Warning, from 10 PM this evening to 1 PM
PST Wednesday. For the High Wind Watch, from late Wednesday
evening through Thursday morning.

* IMPACTS...High winds may move loose debris, bring down trees,
damage property and cause power outages. Travel could be
difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. Large inflatable
holiday decorations will be blown about.

power outages may result.
